Prayer from Rosary HS Student Preacher

Prayer from Student Preacher, Rosary High School – International Day of Peace, September 21, 2015

S. Ann Brummel of Rosary High School in Aurora, IL submitted this lovely prayer written by student preacher Lizzie S. and shared on the International Day of Peace, September 21st, 2015.

We begin our day at Rosary as we begin all things
In the name of the Father, And of the Son, And of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Thirty three years ago, the United Nations General Assembly established the International Day of Peace which is now celebrated every year today, September 21st. War zones call a day of ceasefire. People light candles. Churches gather to pray together. This year, we celebrate with the theme “Partnerships for Peace- Dignity for All”. As you may remember from Thursday, we discussed in bridges the importance of study outside of the classroom and how we must go into the world with the bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other. Mahatma Gandhi famously said “be the change you wish to see in the world.” I invite you today to look around you and not only see the social injustices of the world, but the many ways you can take action on these issues, whether it be educating yourself on an issue, donating your clothes to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, or sparking conversation with others about all these issues. Use today as an inspiration to do your part to bring peace to the world.

We pray for those who suffer as a result of social injustices such as human trafficking, racism, or poverty, that they never lose hope in the face of despair. We pray. Lord hear our prayer.

We pray for ourselves, the students and staff of Rosary, that we do not simply let these violations of human dignity go ignored, but make an effort to both learn of and advocate for them. We pray. Lord hear our prayer.

We pray for world leaders, that they will take this day of peace to rekindle their passion for social justice and work towards equality for all. We pray. Lord hear our prayer.

We pray for the prayers written in our school prayer book and the prayers we hold in the quiet of our hearts, we pray. Lord hear our prayer.

We bring all these things to God, in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
