DASS Annual Meeting and In-Service

Reminders:

People who are attending the Annual meeting/In-service, October 18th and 19th, 2011 in Akron, Ohio will receive confirmation from Lisa Massello (Principal of Our Lady of the Elms' Schools) regarding airport pickups.

For the In-Service day on October 18th, people staying at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn hotel will be picked up at 8:30 a.m. in front of the hotel or Motherhouse.

Please remember to dress comfortably for our visit to the Crown Point Ecology Center.  Jeans, and good walking shoes are in order.  We're hoping for good weather, but if the weather is inclement, we'll go with alternate plans.  Also, options are available for people who have any physical disabilities. We're very grateful to Lisa Massello and the staff of Crown Point Center who have planned a wonderful and enjoyable learning experience for all of us. Following the in-service excursion, people will be escorted back to the hotel or Motherhouse.  Dinner that evening will be on your own (plenty of restaurants available nearby).

For the DASS Annual Meeting on October 19th, people will be transported from the hotel at 8:30 a.m. (for those who are leaving immediately after the meeting, please bring luggage with you).

DASS Midwest Gathering of Campus Ministers and Theology Teachers

Congratulations To:

St. Agnes Academy/St. Dominic School in Memphis, Tennesee for celebrating 160 years of academic excellence in the Dominican tradition. St. Agnes Academy opened its doors in February of 1851 with 20 borders and 20 day students. Despite the Civil War, four Yellow Fever epidemics and several fires, St. Agnes never closed its doors, making it the oldest continuously operating school in Memphis. One hundred sixty years later, with an enrollment of over 900, the School is celebrating its rich history and tradition of academic excellence. While much has changed at St. Agnes-St. Dominic over these 160 years, much remains the same-dedication to academic excellence; devotion to the Dominican charism of study, prayer, community and service; and a close-knit, nurturing environment. Most important of all, says President Barbara Daush, is the schools' long-standing commitment to mold young women and men of moral courage and ethical wisdom. "It has always been our vision to instill in each student the desire and ability to make the world a better place."

Sr. Mary Soher, OP (Director) and the 98 junior and senior students from twenty-one of our Dominican High Schools who attended this summer's Dominican High School Preaching Conference in Adrian, Michigan.  These young preachers have determined to exert a significant and positive influence in their respective school communities. Many of them were involved in opening teacher and student orientation sessions.

The Board of Directors of Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois who has adopted a "Caring for God's Resource Plan," a campus-wide initiative that has two goals: reducing Marian Catholic's carbon footprint, reducing its solid waste and significantly increasing its recycling efforts.
